Hitchhiking seems to be possible there, reports from different people told us that waiting time is a bit longer, but possible as everywhere. Jason hitched here in April 2008 without problem and traveled 70km through the mountains to Cagliari in two rides in around one hour thirty. People seem to be really friendly.
For getting onto the island, RyanAir for example offers extremely cheap flights to Alghero.
